Fuel Spend Reduction Program

HTC Energy specializes in Fleet management – we make it our business to help clients optimize the fuel efficiency of their fleet with a view to reducing fuel spend and raising profit margins.

A 5% reduction in fuel spend can represent a significant reduction in total operating costs far greater than what pump price savings normally offer. HTC Energy adopts a consultative approach to fleet management, providing the required guidance and support to help you develop a program for reducing fuel spend across your entire fleet.

So how exactly does HTC Energy help customers reduce total fuel spend:

Fleet Management Efficiency Check List

HTC Energy applies a self-audit checklist to assess the status of fuel management in your organization and to accordingly identify areas requiring action. Our fuel spend reduction program assesses various critical success factors and develops action points for each of these areas:

Role of Management

Introducing a fleet management program must be a permanent commitment towards a new company culture. It requires plenty of management support and encouragement, making it clear that the organization supports safe and fuel-efficient driving.

Financial Aspects of Fuel Management

We show you how to put the actual costs of each vehicle into perspective so that the organization has an accurate idea of the cost of each vehicle and the impact of every 1% of fuel savings on the total profit margin.

The Fuel Champion

The fuel champion is the person appointed by the organization to promote the program. We provide the necessary guidance to determine the role and responsibilities of the fuel champion, and to develop an action plan for the fuel spend reduction program.

Monitoring and Targeting

Accurate and regular monitoring is critical to the success of any fuel management program. HTC Energy provides you with the required reporting, not just on the actual fuel spend per vehicle, but also on the fuel efficiency in relation to the distance covered. In fact we go a step further in providing you with the ability to set targets and compare the fuel efficiency performance in L/100 km for each vehicle. Our systems additionally provide the flexibility of capturing data by vehicle ID or Driver ID; whichever is more appropriate. So when drivers are often compelled due to a breakdown or service repair to take another vehicle, they can record the different vehicle ID against their fleet card so that the vehicle statistics will always remain 100% accurate.

Furthermore, the Esso fleetcard allows you to monitor and control fuel expenditure for each individual vehicle by applying individual transaction, daily allowance, and monthly allowance limits.

Factors Affecting Fuel Consumption

Developing an effective action plan requires an in-depth assessment of the factors affecting fuel consumption. Beyond just the vehicle itself, its age and condition, other important factors include the driving behavior, the load, the weather, the route and traffic conditions, as well as the type of fuel and motor oils applied to the vehicle. The quality of fuels and motor oils both have a major influence on fuel consumption and can make a substantial difference on total fuel spend.

Quality Fuels - Esso Synergy

Very few companies understand the true difference in fuel quality between one supplier and another, or the resulting impact on fuel savings and engine lifetime. Whilst all fuel suppliers are legally required to adopt a minimum fuel quality standard, some suppliers choose to exceed the minimum requirement with a view to offering increased engine protection and performance through the inclusion of additives. Additives include detergents and other agents and do, in fact, matter as they help prevent fuel injector clogs and carbon deposits from forming in the combustion chambers, thereby impeding valve operation and engine performance.

Esso Synergy Fuels

For more than 130 years ExxonMobil, the world’s largest Public Energy company and owner of the Esso and Mobil brands, has been committed to developing quality fuel products. Today ExxonMobil continues to lead the way, using its engineering expertise and focusing on technology and innovation to develop its Esso Synergy line of fuels.

Esso Synergy Fuel Technology – How it Works

Developed in the same ExxonMobil labs as the Formula 1 racing fuels, Esso Synergy fuel technology is engineered with 7 key ingredients to help you get better mileage.

Fuel Detergent Number 1

This ingredient does the dirty work, helping to scrub away deposits and protect your engine from build-up, which over time can affect performance. It helps provide excellent protection against intake valve deposits in traditional PFI (Port Fuel Injector) injection engines.

Fuel Detergent Number 2

This ingredient goes the extra mile, scouring nooks and crannies to wash away even the toughest gunk. It helps provide Intake Valve Deposit protection for PFI engines and also provides additional protection for modern Direct Injection engines. Cleaner engine parts can lead to better gas mileage.

Anti-Adhesion Compound

The Anti-Adhesion Compound helps prevent fuel detergents from forming a sticky film on the intake valves, which in turn helps prevent cold start problems at cold temperatures.

Corrosion Inhibitor

The Corrosion Inhibitor helps prevent rust in the fuel distribution system and/or key engine parts the fuel comes into contact with, such as the gas tank and the intake valves.

Demulsifier

Did you know fuel can get out of shape? The Demulsifier works hard to help prevent fuel from holding onto excess water that can accumulate in your gas tank and can wreak havoc in the distribution system.

Solvent Fluid

Changes in temperature can cause some ingredients to get jammed. The Solvent Fluid helps the additive ingredients to stay mixed and to flow, and not freeze at cold temperatures.

Anti Foamant

Diesel fuel may form foam during filling, increasing the time you wait at the service station. The anti-foaming agent helps to fight foaming and offers you a full, continuous, uninterrupted filling.

ExxonMobil Quality Control

Stringent quality controls are in place at every step, ensuring that Esso Synergy fuel specifications are always up to standard:

  • At the refinery, where crude oil is refined into gasoline, diesel, and other petroleum products, ExxonMobil conducts tests to verify that the fuel meets or exceeds engine builder and industry specifications.
  • The fuel is tested again on the tanker prior to delivery to the terminal.
  • At the terminal, ExxonMobil additives are precisely injected as each delivery truck is filled, ensuring the quality of fuel.
  • Finally, fuel dispensers at Esso service stations have built-in filters to provide a final cleaning just before the fuel enters your vehicle’s tank.
  • All Esso stations are equipped with automated specialized sensors to ensure that the fuel quality remains unaltered whilst in the station underground tanks, e.g. from water contamination.

Quality Lubricants – Mobil Oil

When it comes to motor oil technologies, ExxonMobil continues to stay ahead of the curve with Mobil-branded oils. Product development and enhancement is just one of the qualities that sets Mobil motor oils apart from other lubricant manufacturers because not all engine oils perform the same. The story behind the technology and engineering is what sets Mobil™-branded products apart from every other motor oil manufacturer.
